National Weather Service reports this thing won't slow down till it gets to Utica, Mi. Everything there is likely to be blown to Canada.

I know Cap, they are calling for serious rainfall here beginning late Wednesday and into Thursday, with some possible flooding.

Jim Cantore appears to be in trouble.

'THEY THOUGHT WE WERE SAFE'

Inside The Weather Channel

An amazing phone call just aired on The Weather Channel a few minutes ago from Jim Cantore's producer, Simon Temperton. The two of them are at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Miss. (current conditions), where they have sought refuge from rapidly rising floodwaters on the second floor along with 300-400 residents of the home.

Here's some of what Simon reported in his phone call:

"We're going through some unbelievable conditions. Water is seeping into the building. I'd say we've had at least a 20-feet [of] storm surge. It has washed away all our rental cars, and everything else [in the parking lot]...

"Now water is seeping into the home and they are evacuating everyone to the second floor. I'm standing in 5 or 6 inches of water [on the second floor]. The power is out. There are a few emergency lights. It's a very daunting prospect right now....

"It's a very dangerous situation. I've been doing this for 15 years, and [I've] been Mr. Cantore's producer for many hurricanes, and I've never seen anything like this. This is probably the scariest situation we've ever been in -- just the sudden rise of water and how fast. They said we were good here for 27, 30 feet [of storm surge] -- they've never seen anything like it. They thought we were completely safe.

"We're not even shooting anymore. We're basically in self-preservation [mode] right now. We're helping people put up boards and sandbags to keep the water from coming in. We've become part of the crew.

"In the time we've been talking

I wish them the best but it's only a matter of time before something like this would happen. I thought a reporter would be killed on the air before now! Kinda morbid I guess but look at the number of reporters out in each and every Hurricane reporting in Hurricane force winds! Steve Harrigan (FOX) is leaning into the winds and can't even talk...Shep Smith (FOX) is in the French Quarter where it's suppose to flood! It's only a matter of time folks!! #-o

Just reported: North of French Quarter ~ Standing water, 8 to 10 feet deep. Approx 20 people hanging onto telephone poles awaiting rescue!!

Don't know for sure ~ They only said it was between the FQ and Lake Pontchrtrain. Also hearing reports of people scrambling onto their roofs because of flooding!

This I would pay to see. They spend the whole day telling people they have to get out, this is the big one Elizabeth, you got to get yo' ass outta there, and what do they do.....they go there to tell people how bad it is. They shoulb be arrested for violating the curfew.

They are there for ratings and nothing else. I can't wait for the first yeild sign to pierce someone's spleen.

Dear Lord, just saw the new video from what used to be Gulfport...looks like an F5 tornado about 20 miles wide went through there. Houses just reduced to rubble, not even a wall standing.

I come down on the side firmly against hurricanes!

ps. I played 18 holes in Katrina today. It wasn't so bad.............
