Of course you could have been. You could also have been hit by a truck while taking him home. And killed.

A major murderer just was handed his sentence.
Just before he killed a 78-year-old woman, I gave
him a ride home. Could I have been the one killed?
It wasn't your time yet. Count your blessings... :D

Matilda,

Most often the victim in a murder case knows his/her killer. The hard fact of the matter is that he was a casual acquaintance, not a trusted friend. I'm sorry, but you should not have allowed him into your vehicle. As BFD said, there is no telling what or when something trips these people. Please do not be so friendly in the future, I enjoy your posts. ;)

I never would have thought anything of giving a ride to a co-worker or someone else I knew. Then again, I don't usually think of the people I know as murderers. I recently read the Anne Rule's book about the dentist in Atlanta who murdered his wife and it turned out he had murdered a girlfriend in college and possibly a couple of other women. No one ever thought of him as a murderer but he was. You just never know but I have a hard time never showing kindness to people I know because of fear that they "may" not be what they seem.
