I find this fascinating

a poll from roadfood.com

chips just below fries? I'm surprised it's that close.
Hell I could open a sandwich joint and serve pickles and
chips and never have to buy a fryer

What Do You Enjoy Most With a Sandwich?
Pickle (22%)

Fries (29%)

Slaw (10%)

Chips (28%)

Potato Salad (11%)

Total Votes: 939

Most of the sub shops here don't serve fries

looking at it that way, I guess it makes sense.
But sitdown lunch places like Fridays, Applebees, I don't
even think they offer chips, do they?

It depends on the sandwich.

A burger, it's gotta be fries or onion rings. Pulled pork, make it slaw and beans. A cold-cut sandwich, chips please.

Like Unity said depends,

Catfish, shrimp or oyster poboy fries, onion rings or both,

Maybe a few hushpuppies too

For hot dawgs gimmy some fritos to dip in a side of chili

French dip poboy potatoe skins are a must

Seems like if they do serve chips, they are usually homemade. Seems to be the latest crave round here.

A nice cold dill pickle goes with any thing in my book. But I'm the "odd ball" as you all know. I do understand why fries were at the top of the list. (we all like fries! ) Think I'm the only person to put malt vinegar and black pepper on them though. Malabar pepper is great on fries. Yea, they look at you odd when you come in with a small grinder. (I keep in the glove box) Kind of like ordering a cup of hot water and put your own tea bag in it. Speaking of tea bags, where is Larry?

chris, it's funny, but I love malt vinegar on fries, just never see it
anywhere except for a local burger joint, river city cafe.
Maybe I should carry some in my glove box.

btw, I voted for slaw.
