Ford F250 rolls from Bob Hall Pier parking lot into the Gulf
CORPUS CHRISTI — Ron Hensley has seen a lot of things happen on the beach, but Monday morning's events were strange for even him.
While taking photos near Bob Hall Pier, he saw a Ford F250 truck roll from the parking into the Gulf of Mexico.
"I've seen some odd things, but not like this," Hensley said.
The truck, owned by David McCain of Corpus Christi, traveled about 50 yards from the parking lot to the surf and was nearly 50 yards into the water when McCain, Hensley and other onlookers were able to stop the truck from going deeper into the Gulf.
"He thought he put it in neutral, but it must have been in drive," Corpus Christi Police Department Sgt. Ross Richards said. "The wind may have helped move the truck."
Winds were reaching nearly 50 miles per hour Monday morning.
The combined efforts of a tow truck, another Ford F250 and a Chevy 2500 pickup finally pulled McCain's truck from the Gulf late Monday morning. The truck did not start.
