Frozen Primo

Any one have any idea on how to thaw a XL out? The lid is frozen to the bace gasket. Sure don't want to crack or break it! Any help would be great!
Thanks
Chris

If you have a hose torch stick it through the bottom vent with the top vent open and light the charcoal, it should thaw in a couple minutes. Or put a quick light (parafin cube) or tea candle underneath the charcoal and it will light the charcoal just like the torch, just slower. Don't force the lid, you won't crack it but you will rip the gasket off for sure.

I'll let you know larry. I'm cooking on it this weekend. Good thing I checked it yesterday. I was thinking a heat gun would thaw it out too.

just be careful....in the future, can you store it with a garbage bag or something inbetween the lid and the body?

Jim you could, that would create a release between the two pieces of frozen felt gasket. The gaskets can also seize together due heat. Again it's not a biggie, you can easily light the Primos without opening the lid and the heat will either thaw or release a seized lid.

I've heard of the same thing happening with BGE. They recommended the same approach put forth by Larry. Just a small fire under the charcoal should cure it.

Hokey smokes! What a PITA that deal was. There was no charcoal in the thing, so plan B was to prop a torch into the bottom vent hole and let it roll till it got to 400F. It opened right up then, took about 3hrs. I then used the clean out tool (on it's side) to keep the lid open about a half inch. after it got cold with the lid up.
Thanks for all the help!
Chris
