fried green tomatos and grilled silverqueen (?) corn

and tuna

The tomato plants are producing fruit, and I love fried green
tomatoes almost as much as ripe ones. Went to a farmer's market
and was told this was silver queen, but it didn't taste like it.,,it was
good but not as sweet. It could have been the early silverqueen just
isn't as sweet, or it could have been the lady just lied, knowing that
99 percent of the customers will believe her. All white corn is not
silver queen. Regardless, it ate well. Blackened some tuna too.

That is not silver queen. Way to early for that fine.

good link Chris, thanks. I think there should be a law (like Vidalia onions/Champagne) about specific types of foods.

We've been getting Florida stuff...a farmer I trust told me today they're
getting local corn tomorrow, not silver queen. I was hoping the Florida
silver queen was in, but like I said, the vendor I bought from was
from Hartsville Sc, said it was local, and maybe it was. If it had been
Florida silver queen, I think it would have been sweeter.

I did some research last night after dinner. The true silver queen is
getting much harder to find because the "super-sweet" variety lasts
longer in the field, giving farmers more opportunity to generate profit.
Nearly all have gone this route, and I don't blame them. I even went
back to the same lady today for okra and squash, they looked great.
I really don't care where they came from as long as they taste good.
Our local sweet corn is probably a month away, but that won't stop me
from eating what I can get now.

Anyone have any questions about grilling corn? The easy way is fantastic.

Awww man that's a good looking meal Cappy!

Next time you're grilling, toss some green tomatoes in some Zesty Italian dressing and grill them!

I'll bet Larry is personally responsible for the zesty Italian shortage on the eastern seaboard.

Great link. Great nostalgia for a transplanted Illinois native. I believe good sweet corn is the crack cocaine of the vegetable world.

(My tiny, 5'1" mother would often finish off a dozen ears by herself. We'd buy 'em from a farmer's field stand on the way home. She'd have 'em shucked and cleaned before the water boiled, maybe not even getting her hat taken off first. )
