Fish Fry Batter On Chicken?

Guy told me the other day he uses fish fry batter on chicken. Any one hear of such a thing? Or is this guy just yanking my chain.

Southern fried chicken experts will say na, but we got a Tai restaurant that uses a batter for there fried chicken instead of the buttermilk and flower. Maaaaann it is some of the best fried chicken around. I say go for it.

I would think it would be fine, like tempura.
