Took a ride yesterday with wife and kids out the Mohawk Trail
here in Ma. and up into Vermont to see some foliage and stock
up on potatoes, squash, onions and grab some pumpkins.

Anyhow, we ended up at Curtis's... the self proclaimed
"Ninth Wonder of the World"

This is Curtis...He's said he's been BBQing in the same
spot behind his bus for the past 39 years.

His menu is pretty simple... no hotdogs or hamburgers here folks....
just CHICKEN & RIBS

Wife and I ordered a full rack to split and some collards,
loaded baked taters and some cucumber-onion salad.
The sauce was a strong vinegar base but had a good
blend of sweet and cayanne with it. VERY GOOD!!!
Kids had chicken & rib combo plates with no sauce.

Curtis is an extremely friendly man who tends the pits
while helpers run the customers quickly through lines at
one of the blue buses. He's quick to chat up stories of
BBQ and times gone by. But, don't expect him to stop
what he's doin and chat.....cause while his mind might
be in conversation with you...
his heart is payin attention to his "Q"!!!

Sometimes "Q"ing can be a thankless job, so Curtis keeps
his best friend out there with him.

Most of the time Curtis's friend is over hamming it up at the
fence edge or laying in the shade.... but sometimes they
are side by side working the pit!

THE END!

So much for "Board of Health B.S." everywhere in the world.

This guy has been doin it outside with a pig by his side within
breathing distance of the uncooked and finished food
product.... and he's been doin it for 39 years!

Maybe he has the pig listed as an "employee"

Thats a great american success story.. Glad to see that the samll business is still alive and well. .

Wonder if the pig knows what he's cookin??

SJ I saw him on the TV.
Those are the best (non video  ) pics I've seen! I wish I could have been on that trip 8)
Thanks for sharing dude ;)

I like those kinds of places.. They have the real home cooked food, Great Post!! Thank you very much. God Bless America!!!! [smilie=a_goodjob.gif]

Yep Joe thems the best places to find Q, That open pit style too. I'll bet yall could smell the Q a few miles off. They have a Q joint here thats simular, an old wooden building from the 1800's, not listed in phone book & off the beaten path. They open when they feel like it too

that's pretty cool. does he cook his ribs on the same pit? i didn't see any covered area.

The lower pit closest to the bus had ribs and the other had
chicken. There was only a couple of racks when I snapped the pics....
he was in the process of takin' off and reloading while I
was talking with him.
