Coconut Charcoal

Saw this over at the UKBBQ site. Never heard of it. I have bunches of coconuts around here, never thought about cooking with them. The ad says "smokeless" so I wonder how much flavor it might add, maybe just a heat source.

GH,

I have 5 boxes of Kamado Extruded Coconut Charcoal left in my garage which I bought as part of a pallet buy with two other guys. While it does not impart a smoky flavor simialr to lump, it is the longest burning, little or no ash producing charcoal I have ever used.

On a full charcoal ring on my WSM, I can easily get 24-30 (and I shut it down at 30 hours) hours of burn. It is GREAT stuff.

Drawbacks...not easily accessible, can only be bought at certain time through the year when Kamado gets their shipments in and it is shipped from California. Can not be bought by the single box. #2 Pricey, if I remember correctly for a 20# box I paid right around 13 or 14 dollars. Check out the following links:

That was very interesting. I guess I can't just chuck some shells on the fire to get the same benifits. Coconut BBQ sounded good.
