Not to steal this thread but on the same line. If anyone has a cast iron skillet that has a lot of build up on the out side, put it in thier fire box the next time they fire it up. The heat will pop the build up off. Then re-season it. My buddy puts them on brush fires for the same effect.

You can store them in the garage and they will probably be fine. Just check them every so often and give them a little oil if needed.
