Could be spyware...

Download Ewido Anti-Spyware from http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

1. Load Ewido and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
2. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
3. Click on the Scanner tab at the top and then click on Complete System Scan
4. Ewido will list any infections found on the left, when the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. Ewido will then display "All actions have been applied" on the right.

Ewido is now AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 -- same company, different packaging. AVG anti-virus is also a good product. I've used them both for quite a while.

It's a good idea to use several anti-spyware/anti-malware programs, because each of them screens differently, and several will catch more than any single one will. I use Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D, which you have to open and run yourself. AVG anti-spyware (the former Ewido) runs in the background.

Thanks guys; I solved the bigger problem (without knowing the facts). I recently switched to Earthlink which has all the protection stuff but what they dont tell you is it gobbles up your resources something awful. So I uninstalled all that stuff and reinstalled AVG which is an outstanding program and isn't a resources pig.

FYI everybody; Earthlnk being roughly 40.00/month is touted to be a good value because of all the protection they offer. Granted their email screening is very good but the rest is available for pennies on their dollar and they dont even say theirs works in the final analysis. Then they try and sell you Norton and Mcafee protection when your paying 20.00/month for their stuff. What a fiasco; I'm switching to satellite Internet and getting rid of telephone when my contract is over.
You can download all the safeguards you need -- firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware -- for free or for a small fee. It's best to steer clear of security suites -- Norton, McAfee, and others -- because (a) the programs are resource hogs, (b) the companies are hucksters, (c) the services are overpriced, and (d) the companies had one good product and expanded into areas where they're not as capable. You can do better going to several specialist companies who offer free non-commercial use for individuals.
