Nope haven't used it but I assume you could get the same effect at a cheaper price by cooking indirect and adding some smoked wood chips in an aluminum foil pouch (with some holes punched on top) and placed directly on the coals.

Don't have that but I have one of these:

It works on the same premise and you just put a small disposable aluminum pan ver the coals to act as your water pan. Add another pan under your meat to act as a drip pan. No problem holding temps in the kettle to the 225-250 range.

I've smoked twice on my Kettle just using the baskets and it worked as good or better than the WSM.
